What the seller pays

Springvale

Real yard, real people

WHY SELL TO CAR ON DEAL

You already know the other options.
Here's the honest version.

We’re a used-car dealership on Fairview Street in Springvale. We buy cars because

we retail cars — which is a different thing entirely to a wrecker or an app.

Nobody needs your home address

Selling privately means giving strangers your address, your keys and a seat beside you on a test drive — usually uninsured.
You come to us instead. A licensed yard on a main street, staffed, in daylight. There is never a reason for us to know where you live.

A licence number you can check

In 2020, Australians reported more than $1 million lost to car ad scams across 1,000+ reports to ACCC Scamwatch, and around one in five of those people also lost personal information.
We're LMCT 12185 , on the Consumer Affairs Victoria public register, with an ABN and a street address. Look us up before you come.

Know what comes out of your money

Some of the "free" car-selling platforms take a success fee out of your proceeds. Auto Flip's own published fee schedule charges the seller $330–$449 on a car that sells for $5,000 $9,999, and $399–$518 on one that sells for $10,000–$19,999.
That is deducted from what you walk away with. What Car On Deal charges a seller: [SELLER FEE POSITION — TBC]
Source: autoflip.com.au/seller-fees, checked 11/08/2026. Their tiers vary by state.

We value it as a car, not by the kilo

A wrecker prices your car on weight and the parts that come off it. We put cars back on the road, so a car with life left in it is worth more to us.
High kilometers, honest wear, a fault you've been ignoring — tell us.   [BUYING CRITERIA — TBC]

Still paying it off? Routine here.

A private buyer runs a $2 PPSR check, sees finance owing, and walks. It's the most common reason a private sale collapses.
Bring us the car and a payout letter from
your lender and we'll go through the numbers with you in one sitting.  [FINANCE PAYOUT PROCESS — TBC]

No gap between cars

The buying apps take your car and disappear.
We buy and sell — usually 60–80 cars on the lot, roughly $5,500 to $50,000.
So you can put the value of yours straight onto the next one. Finance, rent-to-own and student finance are available.
[SAME-VISIT DRIVE-OUT — TBC]

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps. No surprises in the middle.

Tell us about the car

The form above takes about a minute. Rego, how to reach you, and a few honest details about condition. Photos help but they’re optional.

We come back with a range

We do a desk appraisal against real market data and contact you with an indicative range and anything we need to ask. It’s an estimate, not a firm offer — because nobody has seen the car yet.

Bring it in, get a firm offer

If the range works, book a time at 41 Fairview Street. We look over the car, confirm a firm number and explain how we got there. Say yes and we handle the paperwork and payment

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

The things people actually think
before they call.

I'll get thousands more selling it privately.

You might, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Worth pricing in: a paid listing on the big marketplaces costs money and the price depends on your car and your postcode, a Victorian roadworthy is about $150–$200 if nothing's wrong and expires after 30 days, and private sales typically take two weeks to two months — so plenty of people pay for the roadworthy twice. Add detailing, fuel for test drives and every evening spent replying to people who don't turn up. If the gap still looks worth it after all that, sell it privately with our blessing.

You'll drop the price once you see it.

That's the category's worst habit and it's why we won't give you a firm number over the internet. Any range we give you before an inspection is clearly labelled an estimate. The firm offer comes after someone has physically looked at the car — and we'll explain exactly what's behind it. [OFFER POLICY — TBC]

It's got 240,000 on it and a dent in the tray.

Work vehicles come through here regularly. Kilometres are one factor — condition, service history, model demand and what the market's doing all matter too. Tell us what's actually wrong with it. Being upfront gets you a more accurate range and a much shorter appointment.

The rego's expired and it won't pass a roadworthy.

Ask us about your specific car before you assume it's scrap. As a licensed motor car trader our requirements aren't the same as a private buyer's — [RWC POSITION — TBC] . What we can tell you is that for a private sale in Victoria you'd generally need a valid RWC, it's around $150–$200 if nothing's wrong, and it's only good for 30 days.

I owe more on it than it's worth.

That's negative equity and it's far more common than people think — it doesn't mean you're stuck, and there's nothing embarrassing about it. Get a payout letter from your lender (they're usually valid 7–14 days because interest accrues daily), bring it with the car, and we'll show you exactly where you stand in numbers. [NEGATIVE EQUITY HANDLING — TBC]

I don't want to be hassled with calls.

Fair. The most common complaint about this industry after lowballing is being rung repeatedly. Here's exactly what we do, so you can hold us to it. You pick the channel — phone, text, WhatsApp or email — and that's the one we use. If we can't reach you we'll try again, at most four times over seven days, and then we stop and leave you alone. The moment you say you're not interested, that's the end of it: no more calls, no more messages, ever.

Everything else you'll want to know.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

Your car’s value depends on factors such as the make, model, year, mileage, condition, service history, location, and current market demand. To get an accurate estimate, enter your vehicle details and we’ll provide a valuation based on comparable vehicles and current market conditions. Keep in mind that the final offer may vary after a physical inspection of the car.

Whether you need a roadworthy certificate depends on your location and the type of vehicle transaction. In some areas, a valid certificate is required when selling or transferring ownership of a vehicle. Check your local regulations to confirm the requirements. If a certificate is required, we can guide you through the process and let you know what documents you’ll need.

Yes, you can usually sell a car even if you still have outstanding finance. The remaining loan balance will generally need to be paid off as part of the sale, either from the sale proceeds or through an agreed settlement process with your lender. We can help make the process simple and explain what’s needed to complete the sale.

We buy a wide range of cars, including sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, 4WDs, utes, and family vehicles. We consider cars of different makes, models, ages, and mileage, subject to their condition and other eligibility requirements. Whether your car is nearly new or has a few years on the road, you can request a valuation to see what it’s worth.

We aim to get back to you as quickly as possible, usually within one business day. Once you submit your car details, our team will review the information and contact you with the next steps. For the fastest response, make sure your contact details and vehicle information are accurate and up to date.

Once we’ve agreed on the price and completed the necessary checks and paperwork, payment will be arranged promptly. In most cases, payment is made electronically to your nominated bank account. The exact timing may vary depending on your bank and whether there is outstanding finance on the vehicle. We’ll confirm the payment details and process with you before completing the sale.

Not necessarily. Depending on your location and the vehicle, we may be able to arrange a convenient inspection or collection. If you’re required to bring the car to our Springvale location, we’ll let you know when arranging your appointment. Contact our team to discuss the easiest option for you.

To make the process as quick and easy as possible, please bring your driver’s licence or valid photo ID, the vehicle’s registration details, and any relevant finance or ownership documents if applicable. If you have service records, spare keys, or other vehicle documents, it’s also helpful to bring those along. We’ll let you know if anything else is required before your appointment.

No. Filling in our form does not commit you to selling your car. It simply allows us to collect some basic details about your vehicle and provide you with an initial valuation or offer. You’re free to review the offer, ask questions, and decide whether you’d like to proceed.

We use your details to process your enquiry, value your vehicle, communicate with you about your car, and arrange the sale if you choose to proceed. We take your privacy seriously and handle your personal information securely. We won’t sell your personal details to third parties, and any information we share will be handled in accordance with our privacy policy and applicable laws.
